Description
Presque Isle, Maine: We invite a talented Ophthalmologist to join the employed staff of the largest medical center in northern Maine – an 89-bed acute care hospital offering a wide variety of primary and specialty care, acute inpatient, diagnostic and surgical services.

Become part of a medical staff that enjoys solid administrative support, honorable work ethics, and a strong commitment to quality patient care. This hospital is a key part of a progressive, regional, non-profit, healthcare system ranked among the top 100 integrated health systems by IMS. Collectively, this organization – second largest in Maine – serves over 500,000 residents in the northern 2/3 of Maine's geography, with eight hospitals and dozens of affiliates.

In this practice, you will join two full-time Ophthalmologists, a third working part-time, two Medical Optometrists, and excellent support staff. With an annual volume of 8000+ visits and more than 700 surgical cases annually, the practice is thriving! This well-established Eye Care services group has been providing comprehensive ophthalmology, with a subspecialty in medical retina, since 1994. This team is based in a newly-built outpatient suite right on the hospital campus, equipped with state-of-the-art technology including digital photography/angiography, SD-OCT, YAG laser, diode laser, ultrasonography, IOL Master, wavefront/corneal topography, and more. You will enjoy a broad-scope general practice with opportunities to develop a subspecialty interest.

We are offering:

•  Paid relocation to scenic, welcoming Maine!
•  Secure hospital employment
•  Comprehensive practice with experienced clinical leadership
•  Interesting case mix, opportunity to develop subspecialty
•  Modern facilities, experienced support team
•  Excellent salary
•  Paid liability insurance
•  Health, dental, life and disability insurance
•  Several weeks of paid time off for sick leave & vacations
•  Paid time off plus a budget for your CME expenses
•  Generous, multi-year assistance with your medical education debt!
•  Fantastic life/work balance in scenic setting!

Rural northern Maine enjoys a beautiful four-season environment, a huge variety of local recreational pursuits, and abundant wildlife including moose, deer and bald eagles – reasons many seasonal visitors flock to the area to enjoy a quiet summer retreat, or a winter snowmobile excursion. Presque Isle’s local schools are highly rated – particularly the magnet school for students gifted in math and science, which ranks in the top 20 schools in the nation (out of over 20,000!). Three colleges have branches in Presque Isle.

The University of Maine’s multi-million-dollar Recreation and Wellness Center has an indoor pool and climbing wall, and offers athletic programs for all ages. The Maine Winter Sports Center is an Olympic/World Cup training facility in cross-country skiing, and hosts international competitions. The indoor ice rink is very popular for hockey and recreational use.

Presque Isle boasts a regional airport with daily direct flights to Newark for easy connections to destinations around the world. Many residents of northern Maine enjoy visiting Canada – Quebec City is a four-hour drive – or head to Bangor, Maine’s third largest city, 2 ½ hours’ drive south.
