Description
Caribou, Maine: We invite a friendly, skilled Orthopedic Surgeon to join 60 providers on the medical staff of an award-winning, community-owned 65-bed medical center where over 500 employees serve 35,000 residents around northeastern Maine. You will be impressed by this “Top Rural Hospital” – a multiple blue-ribbon hospital and Women’s Choice Award winner. Leapfrog has given this hospital an “A” Safety Score every year! They are rated in the top 2% of all US hospitals for health information and patient safety technology and are the “Employer and Provider of Choice” in healthcare for Northern Maine and beyond.

Surgeons requiring H1b visa sponsorship are encouraged to apply. Expert legal counsel will be provided to manage the immigration process.

You will be employed as a full time general orthopedic surgeon. Become part of a group with two fellow orthopedic surgeons (one is an upper-extremities specialist), a surgical podiatrist and two terrific advanced practice providers. You will see patients in a modern, comfortable office suite, and utilize five well-equipped surgical suites, supported by an anesthesiology team of two Physicians and four CRNAs. Several affiliated primary care practices provide an ongoing source of referrals. You will enjoy a well-rounded practice with an interesting mix of cases including joint replacement, sports medicine and more – and a limited amount of trauma surgery (major trauma and other critical cases are transported to the large tertiary medical center in Bangor, via air ambulance as appropriate).

You can look forward to a convenient 4 day/week schedule and comfortable call, supported by a telephone triage system that screens after-hours calls to improve YOUR quality of life.

Northern Maine is a wonderful place to live and work. Caribou is a dynamic, growing community that is economically, culturally and socially inviting. They have high quality public schools with a student-to-teacher ratio of just 14:1! Caribou boasts an extremely low crime rate, and recreation galore: A multi-million-dollar Recreation and Wellness Center offers indoor running, basketball, swimming and other programs for all ages, and other local facilities include a premier cross-country skiing venue, too.

Rural northern Maine enjoys a picturesque four-season environment with abundant wildlife including moose, deer and bald eagles – reasons many seasonal visitors flock to the area to enjoy a quiet summer retreat, the spectacular colors of autumn, or a winter adventure. Enjoy breathtaking sunsets on area lakes, camping and hiking in peaceful forests, hunting and fishing, canoeing and kayaking on lakes and rivers, hiking and biking on paths for all skill levels, or snowmobiling or dogsledding across groomed trails.

A commercial airport in neighboring Presque Isle (20 minutes away) offers direct flights to Newark daily. Many residents of northern Maine enjoy visiting Canada – Quebec City is a scenic five hour drive – or Bangor, Maine (Maine’s third largest city), a three hour drive south.
