POSITION DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Psychological Health Center of Excellence (PHCoE) is the leading psychological health component for the Defense Health Agency (DHA), providing psychological health care support to the nation’s Service members, veterans, and families. PHCoE collaborates with the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and other agencies providing leadership and expertise, informing policy, and driving improvements in psychological health outcomes. The Clinical Care Branch supports the Clinical Community of Interest to implement new scientific findings and drive practice change in behavioral health care across the DoD.

The Clinical Care Branch requires a Suicide Prevention/Intervention Subject Matter Expert who has a doctoral degree in psychology and is capable of understanding and communicating the complexities of suicide prevention and intervention. Clinical and psychological expertise could be harnessed to inform the development of new DoD policies and procedures, research projects, and/or program evaluation efforts for the Clinical Care Branch. The successful candidate will have expertise in psychological/behavioral treatment methods and techniques relevant to suicide prevention and intervention in the military. This team member will assist in responding to time-limited external and internal requests for information, collaborating with Service representatives to fulfill their suicide prevention and intervention needs, providing clinical and research expertise to collaborating stakeholders, and analyzing and preparing data and relevant information for presentations and publications.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience with clinical suicide intervention; psychological and/or psychiatric research operations, methods, design, and analysis; a solid knowledge of evidence-based treatment and clinical practice guidelines; a history of publishing peer-review journal articles and other scholarly and/or government-related documents; and an ability to work well within both the contracting company and the military system.
  
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (DEPENDENT ON CLIENT’S NEEDS):
•  Function as a DoD Subject Matter expert on clinical suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention
•  Provide rigorous and time sensitive reviews of project proposals, research studies and findings, and policy based on a strong understanding of science and practice of clinical suicide prevention/intervention, the epidemiology of suicide, and specialized research methods
•  Ability to summarize primary evidence/gaps and methodological challenges for a range of suicide prevention topic areas (e.g., epidemiology, biopsychosocial risk and protective factors, clinical and non-clinical interventions)
•  Create clear, well-organized and detailed scientific reports as well as written products tailored to a range of non-scientific audiences
•  Co-author articles for publication in high-impact peer reviewed journals
•  Develop and provide briefings that translate scientific knowledge adapted to specific clinical and non-clinical audiences
•  Provide evidence-based and -informed consultation to organizations about suicide prevention and intervention strategies, to include programs, practices, and policies
•  Provide timely and appropriate information and support to internal and external stakeholders seeking suicide-related information
•  Monitor suicide prevention and intervention research literature and keep team members abreast of relevant findings
•  Prepare data for leadership reports, scientific presentations, and publications
•  Lead complex projects related to psychological healthcare in the Military Health System
•  Maintain active engagement with and awareness of current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines
•  Provide evidence-informed written responses, sometimes within a very short turn-around time
•  Perform administrative duties as needed
•  Potential travel (up to 15% of time)
