Position Description: Experienced Physician Assistant (Min. of 3 Years Inclusive of OR)

Round On Patients
• Independently round on patients every day, including weekends, at multiple locations (SF & Marin)
• Writing progress notes
• Managing all medications and medical issues
• Managing psychosocial issues
• Adept at coordinating care with other services, as needed
• Calling and coordinating consults independently, as needed
• Adept at wound care
• Placing and managing inpatient orders
• Working with case management for disposition
• Discharging patients
After Hours & Weekend Phone Call Responsibility
• Call responsibility assigned to on-call PA
• On call schedule occurs every other week. Frequency will decrease as we hire additional PAs
• Available to answer patient-related questions and to speak to patients directly, as needed, after hours and on weekends
• High level of clinical expertise, sensitivity, and independence when interacting with patients
• Entering notes into EMR
• Calling pharmacy for medications as needed
• High level and accurate clinical judgment and knowledge to determine if patient should be admitted or brought back to the OR
Manage ED Admissions
• Speaking with ED attending
• Speaking with and coordinating care with consulting team
• Admissions orders
• Rounding on patients
• Wound care
• Discharging patients
OR Responsibilities
• Expectation to operate and be available every day, Monday through Friday (as needed)
• Ensuring appropriate reps have been notified for specific supplies/instruments
• Working with Charge RN and SPD to ensure all instruments/supplies are available
• Operating simultaneously with surgeon
• Assisting in OR
• Adept at moving case forward, particularly if supporting staff (circulator, surgical tech) is not strong
• Ability to anticipate, and to be several steps ahead of surgeon
• Managing all post-op dressings.
• Ensuring patient is appropriately set up, prepped, and draped
• Coordinating care with anesthesia and OR team.
• Managing discharge medications/prescriptions, if needed.
• Mastectomies:
o Independently marking patient
o Performing entire mastectomy from start to finish independently.
o Suturing
o Skin grafts
• Vaginoplasties
o Set up and local injections
o Markings
o Harvesting and preparing skin graft
o Suturing
• FFS
o Dissection of flaps
o Bone contouring
o Liposuction and fat grafting
o Adept at bone contouring, and use of burrs/saws, and bone fixation (selecting and placing screws/plates)
• Phalloplasty
o Assist with dissection under loupes
o Adept at assisting under microscope
o Very astute and independent management of post-op free flaps
