Bangor, Maine: We seek an experienced PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT to join the EMERGENCY MEDICINE team of a 400-bed academic medical center in Bangor – Maine’s third largest city. This hospital is the site of an unopposed family medicine residency program and is the cornerstone institution in Maine’s second largest healthcare system.

This tertiary care center ED is staffed by more than a dozen Emergency Medicine Physicians plus 10 PAs, all hospital-employed. The service is supported by a host of subspecialists and an experienced Hospitalist team to handle admissions. This key trauma center is the referral destination for more than a dozen area hospitals. It is also the base for Maine’s LifeFlight service – a critical care air transport service flying nearly 900 missions per year.

The incoming PA will have a convenient DAY SHIFT schedule for optimal work/life balance. See an interesting variety of patients and issues in a high-acuity ED with over 35,000 visits/year (and an admission rate over 20%). Staffing is arranged so the PAs never work solo – there is always a doctor on hand. Leadership and teaching options are available if desired. PAs who are EM Fellowship trained will receive priority attention. This is an equal opportunity employer.

You will earn a very competitive salary with opportunities to earn more via performance incentives and additional hours over your quarterly target. Benefits include a cash starting bonus, paid relocation assistance, paid liability insurance, health and dental insurance, paid time off, generous student loan debt assistance, and more. Details will be discussed with qualified candidates.

Scenic Maine proudly earns the nickname, “Vacationland” – a pristine, rejuvenating playground where visitors from around the world choose to spend their leisure time. Make your home here and experience a fantastic four-season environment with virtually limitless outdoor activities on land and water. Enjoy the many parks, beaches and mountains offering peace, beauty and relaxation.

Bangor is a historic riverside community with over 100,000 people plus an international airport, shopping malls and theatres, dozens of restaurants, a wonderful children’s museum, a symphony orchestra, a casino/hotel, summer concerts and annual music festivals on the riverfront, and much more. Superb public schools, family-friendly neighborhoods and a low crime rate are just some of the reasons Bangor is rated as one of the best cities in the US in which to raise a family. Enjoy the amenities of a good-sized metro area without the hassle!

The neighboring city of Orono, 10 minutes north, is home to the flagship campus of the University of Maine, with over 10,000 full time students and an abundance of cultural and collegiate sporting events including NCAA Division I football, soccer, basketball, baseball and hockey.

Maine’s rocky coastline is 30 minutes downriver from Bangor, and offers enjoyable kayaking and sailing, fishing and whale watching and more. Bangor is an hour from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, where 50,000 acres of beautiful mountains, lakes, beaches and campgrounds attract millions of visitors annually. Acadia offers thirty miles of bicycle paths, and picturesque hiking trails appealing to novice or advanced climbers. Bangor is two hours from Portland, and three hours from Boston.
