Caribou, Maine: We invite a talented Emergency Medicine Physician to join the medical staff of an award-winning, community-owned 65-bed medical center where over 500 employees serve 35,000 residents around northeastern Maine. You will be impressed by this “Top Rural Hospital” – a multiple Blue-Ribbon and Women’s Choice Award winner. Leapfrog has given this hospital an “A” Safety Score every year. They are rated in the top 2% of all US hospitals for health information and patient safety technology, a ”Best Place to Work in Maine,” and are the “Employer and Provider of Choice” in healthcare in the area.

Qualified physicians (MD/DO) trained in EM, IM or FM are all welcome here. Candidates requiring J1 or H1b visa sponsorship are encouraged to apply to this Equal Opportunity Employer. Expert legal counsel will manage the immigration process, with all costs covered.

Your full-time schedule is 14 12-hour shifts/month. Most doctors alternate 3 and 4 days/week. Join a top-notch team of 5 physicians staffing this 24-hour ED and providing compassionate, high-quality care for about 16,000 visits per year (including the walk-in clinic). This Level II Trauma Center sees a wide variety of cases including elderly people with cardiac and respiratory complaints, along with typical primary care and emergent care visits. APPs often handle lower acuity ED patients. You will be impressed by the excellent, specially trained nursing staff and superb administrative support team. Modern facilities include a trauma room, 11 exam rooms, and 2 walk-in care rooms (staffed by NPs and PAs), along with the latest diagnostic testing tools. Major trauma, cardiac, neurosurgery, psychiatric and other critical cases are transported to the large tertiary medical center in Bangor, via air ambulance as appropriate.

You will earn a very competitive hourly rate plus excellent benefits including paid relocation assistance, paid liability insurance, health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, SIX WEEKS of paid time off for sick leave, vacations and your CME, a budget for CME expenses, and more. Ongoing assistance with student loans is also available.

Northern Maine is a wonderful place to live and work. Caribou is a dynamic, growing community that is economically, culturally and socially inviting. They have high quality public schools, with a student/teacher ratio of just 14:1. The new $50M Middle/Senior High School opened in 2020. Caribou boasts an extremely low crime rate, and recreation galore. A multi-million-dollar Recreation and Wellness Center offers indoor running, basketball and other programs for all ages, and other local facilities include a premier cross-country skiing venue that has hosted the Biathlon World Cup.

This rural region enjoys a picturesque four-season environment with abundant wildlife including moose, deer and bald eagles. Seasonal visitors come to enjoy a quiet summer retreat, the spectacular colors of autumn, or a winter adventure. Enjoy breathtaking sunsets on area lakes, camping and hiking in peaceful forests, hunting and fishing, canoeing and kayaking on lakes and rivers, hiking and biking on paths for all skill levels, plus skiing or snowmobiling or dog sledding across groomed trails.

The commercial airport in neighboring Presque Isle (20 minutes away) offers direct flights to Newark daily.
