St. Albans, Vermont: We seek an experienced HOSPITALIST to be MEDICAL DIRECTOR for a 70-bed nonprofit hospital in this desirable New England city just 30 minutes north of Burlington. Qualified candidates will be certified in either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

You will lead the team managing a 34-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU – a combination of ICU, Step-Down, and Med/Surg). Join 4 physician Hospitalists and 2 APPs, along with per diem providers who fill out the schedule. This is a hands-on role that includes providing patient direct care. Step-down beds in the PCU are for people transitioning between the ICU and Med/Surg. Patients awaiting nursing home placement sometimes spend time on this unit.

Join a state-of-the-art nonprofit with private, newly constructed inpatient rooms. The hospital is affiliated with two academic medical centers: one for specialist referrals, and the other for 24/7 critical care telemedicine support, including A/V connections in several ICU suites for remote consultations. So, the ICU is co-managed via Tele-ICU. 24/7 care is provided in the Emergency Department with strong specialty backup.

We seek a leader with a passion for process improvement, quality, and building a successful team – someone who has an ownership mentality. Your schedule will average 36-40 hours/week with 8-12 of those hours dedicated to your Medical Director duties, with the rest of your time on clinical shifts. Your administrative time will be used for team building and working toward safety and quality goals. You are not required to do procedures (Hospitalists run codes while most procedures are performed by specialists such as general surgery, anesthesia, pulmonology, etc.). There is no call.

This award-winning medical center (a Top Community Hospital that earns National Patient Satisfaction Awards) provides a collaborative setting where you will partner with fellow clinicians, nursing and care management as well as specialists, all to give the patient the best possible experience.

You will earn a highly competitive salary with benefits including relocation assistance, a generous cash sign-on bonus, and student loan assistance. Also provided: paid liability insurance with tail coverage, health and dental insurance, disability and life insurance, paid time off for personal time and vacations, two weeks of paid leave plus a great budget for your CME, participation in a retirement plan, and more. Details will be shared with qualified candidates.
