Medical Group, a large multi-specialty faculty practice group is seeking an Inpatient BE/BC Attending Psychiatrist for our adult inpatient programs in Phoenix, AZ.

  • This is a full time Attending position, Monday through Friday; Attendings arrive at work by 8AM.
  • The ideal candidate must enjoy working with hospitalized, seriously mentally ill patients.
  • Caseload is 9-10 patients, capped at 11, with attendings usually carrying 8-10 patients.
  • Average length of stay of 22 days; most patients are involuntary, seriously mentally ill and admitted for court ordered evaluation and treatment. Some patients are quite treatment resistant and stay for months.
  • This position includes faculty appointment (for eligible candidates) and involvement in resident and medical student education.
  • Standard of care is higher than at many private hospitals – for example, we require a doc-to-doc call with the outpatient psychiatrist at admission and at discharge, and the Attending participates in staffings with case manager and family on his/her patients (these are arranged by the social worker and at least one is done, within a few days of admission).
  • Attendings prepare affidavits in support of court ordered treatment for their patients, and occasionally (once a month or so) actual court testimony is required; the court room is in the building.
  • EMR is EPIC.
  • No in-house call at night / telephone coverage
  • Attendings need to have experience prescribing clozapine and long acting injectable antipsychotics.
