Position Overview:

The Medicus Firm Executive Search, in collaboration with the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Alabama Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine, is seeking an innovative and accomplished Chief of Infectious Diseases. This leadership role is integral to advancing the division's clinical excellence, public health initiatives, training programs, and research accomplishments. The Chief of Infectious Diseases will provide strategic leadership, overseeing the clinical practice, education, and research activities of the USA Infectious Diseases service line.

Responsibilities:

The Chief of Infectious Diseases will play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the division's impact and contributions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a visionary strategic plan that leverages the division's strengths in clinical care, research, education, and public health, while promoting growth and innovation.
  • Clinical Excellence: Promote exceptional patient care by guiding and mentoring infectious disease providers, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices, and driving continuous improvement in clinical outcomes.
  • Educational Advancement: Lead and inspire medical students, residents, and other healthcare providers through teaching, mentorship, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Clinical Service Oversight: Manage day-to-day clinical service responsibilities related to infectious diseases, ensuring high-quality care delivery, efficient operations, and compliance with Medical Staff bylaws and regulations.
  • Research and Innovation: Foster an environment conducive to cutting-edge research and innovation, encouraging collaboration among faculty members and securing research funding.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the division and institution, modeling cultural proficiency and creating an inclusive environment.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, aligning efforts to enhance patient care, research, and educational experiences.
  • Resource Management: Demonstrate strong business acumen by effectively managing budgets, allocating resources, and optimizing financial performance.
  • Talent Development: Mentor and nurture faculty, staff, and students, promoting their professional growth and contributing to a collaborative team culture.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Chief of Infectious Diseases role possesses the following qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor (MD), MD/PhD, or equivalent degree, eligible for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor at The Whiddon College of Medicine.
  • Established leadership experience within a top-ranked medical school, academic health center, or health system, with a strong interdisciplinary background.
