Description
1. Provides appropriate medical services (assess, treat, admit, transfer, or discharge) to all patients who seek care in the Emergency Department.
• Takes a full history, provides an appropriate physical exam, orders, and interprets diagnostic tests to elucidate the cause of the patient complaint.
• Consults and cooperates with the clinical departments to facilitate patient care management.
• Follows all existing referral patterns with respect to the referral of patients for specialist care.
• Uses currently accepted methods and practices of medicine, and adheres to applicable standards of care, medical ethics, policies, and protocols.
• Responsible for, on a case-by-case basis as the need arises, taking all actions necessary to facilitate the appropriate transfer of a patient to or from another medical facility to gain access to skilled medical care.
• Maintains procedural competency regarding life-sustaining skills.
2. Promotes and maintains a good working relationship with other members of the medical staff and employees. Manages and coaches a team of healthcare professionals to achieve excellent patient care always.
3. Assists the hospital in attaining any goals established from time to time regarding patient, employee, and physician satisfaction in connection with the Physician’s delivery of the services.
4. Consults with Quality Director to achieve better clinical outcomes for patients, improve the quality of patient care and maximize the efficient utilization of physician and hospital recourses.
5. Provides collaboration with urgent care providers to ensure exemplary care of patients in all areas of the hospital.
6. Reports to the hospital, on an as-needed basis, material concerns about the quality of care, delay in delivery of medical services to patients, or any patient concerns.
7. Works diligently with primary care physician/provider for a seamless transition from outpatient to Emergency Department.
8. Obtains and maintains all medical staff appointments and clinical privileges as required by the hospital. The Physicians shall abide by and comply with all codes of ethics, rules, regulations, and procedures adopted or established, from time to time, by the hospital and all applicable governmental or licensing authorities.
9. Complies with the requirements and standards of Medical Staff, Joint Commission, and any other accrediting agencies designated as well as all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
10. Cooperates with the hospital in implementing new procedures, controls, and systems to promote and facilitate quality, cost controls, reimbursement functions, standardization of products and equipment, and any other requests made by the hospital.
11. Provides effective and timely communications to referring or accepting physicians, patients, and family concerning the clinical status of each patient cared for, admitted, or transferred from the Emergency Department.
12. Promotes and maintains good public relations on behalf of the hospital and assists the hospital in attaining goals established regarding patient/employee/physician satisfaction in connection with the delivery of clinical services. Emergency Physicians will be “goodwill ambassadors” of the hospital.

13. Follows and abides by the hospital’s Standards of Conduct. Additional Duties
14. Serves as the Supervising Physician for PA and Collaborating Physician for NP.
• Participates in the chart review process.
• Provides mentorship, guidance, and feedback to Advanced Practice Providers.
• Provides orientation and mentorship duties for newly hired Advanced Practice Providers.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Qualifications:
? Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Wisconsin and maintain good standing on the Black River Memorial Hospital medical staff
? Board-certified in the field of Emergency Medicine or Family Practice/Internal Medicine with 3-5 years of ED experience or board eligible and becomes Board Certified within one year of employment
? Maintain current ACLS, PALS, ATLS
Work Relationship:
? Works directly with the Emergency Department Medical Director for daily operational issues
? Reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer for employment and performance reviews and annual evaluations
? Works regularly with physicians, urgent care providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, and staff from other departments
? Regular contact with patients, families, the public, and other community agencies
Working Conditions:
? Work is performed largely in a pleasant hospital environment with minimal chance for personal injury
? Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation
? Occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock
? Regularly exposed to hazardous materials such as needle punctures, blood, and body fluids
? The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
