The Psychiatrist III is under the general direction and supervision of the Clinical Director. This position will coordinate, control and direct the planning, organizing, and other activities of all supervisory personnel of the unit in executing administrative and treatment programs for clients served. Responsible to insure that all functions within the assigned ward meets compliance with Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) guidelines, Medicare standards, DSHS Commissioner’s Rules and Directives, and facility policy and directives. Directly responsible to the Clinical Director for Programs and coordinates with discipline directors (Psychology, Nursing, Social Service, Adjunctive Therapy, and Chaplaincy). Provides treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment.

Skills
1. Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in general and community psychiatry. 2. Expertise in evaluating patients, setting up and carrying out an effective course of treatment utilizing the abilities of other clinical personnel. 3. Thorough knowledge of the principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans and ability to direct other clinical personnel in this activity. 4. General managerial and supervisory knowledge, skills, and ability to efficiently plan, organize, direct and control a multiple disciplined professional and paraprofessional staff in a complex psychiatric unit within a large state facility.

Notes
1. Graduation from an approved accredited college. 2. At least three (3) years residency training in psychiatry. 3. Currently hold, in the process of obtaining, or eligible to request a Texas Medical license. Board certification or board eligibility desired.
