Essential Job Functions:
Evaluates, diagnoses, prescribes, and supervises treatment by using the Social Learning approach to assigned patients toward the goal of the patients gaining competency to stand trial, conforming to the Medical Staff By-laws, Commissioner’s Rules, and the applicable laws. Evaluates the patient’s response to treatment and makes an appropriate disposition of the case at an appropriate time. Promotes working with the interdisciplinary treatment team by facilitating a unified effective team approach using the expertise of all team members. Participates in the Competency Program Quality Improvement Team as requested, provides psychiatric expertise to the unit management team activities, and providing as appropriate documentation for treatment with psychoactive medications and for special treatments. Shall be in compliance with NTSH, DSHSTX, and JCAHO standards for physician’s documentation. Actively participates in Continuous Quality Improvement and medical staff activities to promote quality care by adhering to the IOP standard. Maintains a high level of clinical competency related to delineate clinical privileges to enhance patient care. Completes mandatory training and satisfies continuing education requirements. Responds to hospital-wide professional needs in providing coverage and professional consultation as assigned to assure medical / psychiatric needs of the patients are met. Also provides special consultation to other members of the medical staff on medical conditions for which he is qualified to offer such consultation. Serves on appointed committees and work groups assigned by the Clinical Director and / or Superintendent. All other duties as assigned by the Psychiatrist III. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Skills
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of medicine, general psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and community psychiatry. Knowledge and understanding of the Administrative Policies and Procedures, Medical Staff By-laws, Rules and Regulations, and DSHS Administrative Law.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
A license to practice medicine in Texas plus successful completion of a residency in psychiatry, approved by the Accreditation Counsel for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent body. Thorough knowledge of and clinical skills in general psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and community psychiatry. A demonstrated ability to evaluate patients and develop appropriate treatment plans and implement effective treatment. Skills in leading and coordinating activities of the interdisciplinary treatment team in in-patient evaluation, treatment plan development, treatment implementation, and documentation of all phases of treatment.
