Psychiatrist IV – The Medical Director performs highly advanced work, under the administrative direction of the Superintendent for Waco Center for Youth (WYC). This position is a key senior management position and is accountable directly to the Superintendent for the performance of the clinical department and deployment of medical staff. The Medical Director provides leadership and oversight of the facility’s clinical and medical program, including on-duty physician coverage and after-hours on-call rotation. In collaboration with department heads, plans, implements, directs, and evaluates the clinical program ensuring the highest possible quality care for all patients. This position is accountable for the medical decisions regarding patient care and treatment. The position includes significant administrative work including medical staff governance, recruitment, retention, credentialing, privileging and supervision of the medical staff, which includes MD’s, APRNs, PMHNP/PMHCNS’s, Locum Tenens, and provides clinical direction to other disciplines (nursing, social work, etc.) The Medical Director is a member of and chairs the Medical Executive Committee and other committees as directed by the Superintendent or the WCY bylaws. Has wide latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. Participates as part of the after-hour doctor on-call rotation. The Medical Director also functions as a treatment team leader and functions as a primary treating psychiatrist in delivering direct patient care on assigned living units. This position ensures that a collaborative multi-disciplinary treatment philosophy is implemented consistently throughout hospital treatment units and clinical departments which supports a recovery care framework, seeking input from medical staff, clinical department heads and other staff. Ensures the hospital complies with Joint Commission, Medicare, Medicaid and IMD standards, agency rules, regulations and policies, as well as Texas Statutes. This position acts as medical liaison with referring healthcare providers such as Mental Health Authorities, managed care entities, universities and state hospitals, as needed. Applies knowledge of current general medical and psychiatric treatment principles and practices, as well as sound principles of management and business analysis to develop services and programs, in response to the needs of clients. Must understand that duties, location of work and shift pattern are subject to change as determined by the administration to meet the needs of the Hospital. Must understand that the duties may include exposure to blood or other potential infectious materials. Supports the mission and vision of the facility. Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations activation.

Skills
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must be licensed to practice medicine by the State of Texas and have completed a psychiatry residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, with subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Initial Selection Criteria:
1. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with subspecialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. 2. Two (2) years’ experience with child and adolescent patients in an inpatient or residential hospital setting is preferred. 3. Two (2) years’ experience in a responsible clinical administrative position preferred.
